COLOMBO: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today left for home after wrapping up his two-day Sri Lanka visit during which he took part in the the International Vesak Day celebrations and addressed Indian-origin Tamils.

"Thank you Sri Lanka! This was a memorable visit, in which I got to take part in various programmes including Vesak Day celebrations," Modi tweeted before emplaning for New Delhi.

"I thank President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the government and (the) warm-hearted citizens of Sri Lanka for their hospitality," he said.

Earlier in the day, Modi took part in the International Vesak Day celebrations in Colombo where he also addressed the gathering as the chief guest.

Later, Modi addressed the Tamils of Indian origin in Dickoya town in the tea growing Central Province of Sri Lanka and inaugurated a Rs 150 crore super-speciality hospital built with India's assistance.
