PM Modi asks all BJP MPs, MLAs to submit bank account details to track transactions from Nov 8

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed all BJP MPs and MLAs to submit details of all transactions they have done through bank accounts from November 8 to December 31 and educate people in their respective constituencies about the benefits of the currency replacement scheme as well as fight against black money.

The details have to be submitted to party chief Amit Shah. It is not clear if the party will make the details public.

Some ministers indicated this cannot be ruled out. However, the BJP lawmakers have not been asked to share details of bank accounts of their spouses and immediate kin.

Many public servants have been in the past accused of transferring the wealth in the name of their next of kin to escape the tax net. Nor have the MPs been asked to furnish details of their bank transactions prior to November 8.

The Opposition has alleged that BJP members knew about the move and made appropriate arrangements to park their unaccounted wealth. Modi struck a strong note at the BJP parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday even as the Opposition stuck to its stand in both Houses and stalled proceedings for the tenth working day.

The chances of a thaw appeared remote as the Opposition plans to up the ante by taking its grievances to President Pranab Mukherjee. “I intended to take 200% wasooli (enforced recovery) from black money hoarders and now it will be 205%,” a BJP leader quoted Modi as saying.
