PM Modi announces fast-track courts for paper leak cases, says youth’s future cannot be compromised

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced that the government would set up fast-track courts to ensure quicker action and strict punishment against those involved in paper leak cases, amid the ongoing protest by the Cockroach Janata Party.

In a post on X, Modi said the welfare and future of the country’s youth remained the government’s top priority and that authorities had been directed to take all necessary steps to protect students’ interests.

“Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth! We have decided to set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks. Have directed the concerned authorities and officials to take all necessary steps in this regard. This continues our series of steps for safeguarding the interests of students,” Modi said.

He added that those attempting to harm the future of young people would not be spared.

The announcement comes as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continues its protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over alleged examination failures, including the NEET paper leak.

The youth-led group has demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, compensation for families of students who died by suicide following the exam crisis, and the release of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who joined the protest.

On Monday, tensions escalated at Jantar Mantar after clashes broke out between protesters and police during the demonstration. The situation turned tense and restricted movement around the protest site. The incident triggered political reactions, with opposition leaders accusing the government of mishandling student concerns and using force against demonstrators.

The CJP protest, which began as a social media-driven campaign, has grown into a larger youth movement focused on examination reforms and accountability in the education system. Protesters have accused the government of failing to ensure transparency in national-level examinations and have called for stronger safeguards against paper leaks.

Opposition leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Aam Aadmi Party's Arvind Kejriwal, have backed the protesters’ demand for accountability and targeted the government over the handling of exam-related issues. Gandhi has demanded the resignation of Pradhan, alleging failures in the education system and questioning the government’s response to repeated paper leak allegations.
