The formal handover of the BJP presidency to Nitin Nabin is set to be a high-profile affair.
Party headquarters in New Delhi will host senior leaders from across the country on January 20, including chief ministers and top functionaries, for a ceremonial event marking Nabin’s assumption of office.
Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to be in attendance to officially witness the change in leadership.
The BJP has outlined the timetable for the organisational polls, with nominations scheduled for January 19 and the declaration of the new president on January 20. Nabin, currently serving as the party’s national working president, is widely anticipated to face no opposition in the race.
According to the election schedule set by the party’s returning officer, nomination submissions will be accepted in the afternoon of January 19, followed by scrutiny and a short window for withdrawals.
Voting will only be conducted if a contest arises, and the party plans to announce the new president formally on January 20.
Nitin Nabin, 45, is the son of the late BJP veteran Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha. He is expected to succeed JP Nadda, whose term began in 2020.
