New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Gujarat on October 31 to mark the 145th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. However, the annual ‘Run for Unity’ won’t be organised this year due to the Covid-19-related restrictions, officials said. Every year, the event is flagged off as the National Unity Day, during which a 1.5 km marathon is organised.

“Central government employees will be administered unity pledge, while cultural events will be organised with Covid-19 health protocols,” said a senior government official.

As per MHA officials, the PM is likely to participate in events being organised by the Gujarat government and the Union home ministry at Kevadiya in Gujarat.

The Centre also planned to direct states to commemorate Patel’s birth anniversary as a special occasion to preserve and strengthen the nation’s unity, an official said.
