Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday night sent a congratulatory letter to US president Barack Obama and hoped that bilateral ties between India and the US would ``strengthen further'' under the new administration.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday night sent a congratulatory letter to US president Barack Obama and hoped that bilateral ties between India and the US would ``strengthen further'' under the new administration. Mr Singh said he looked forward to working with Mr Obama on bilateral issues and to address regional and global issues.

He also reiterated his invitation to the president and his wife to visit India. The letter also focused on the ``the multi-faceted relationship that is anchored in the common values of democracy, pluralism and respect for diversity.��� He called Mr Obama assuming office a `historic' occasion for America and the world.
