PM donates Rs 50,000 for rehabilitation of cloudburst victims

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has donated Rs 50,000 for rehabilitation of victims of the devastating cloudburst that hit Leh last month.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has donated Rs 50,000 for rehabilitation of victims of the devastating cloudburst that hit Leh last month.

Singh had visited the region recently and had announced a Rs 125 crore relief packaged for cloudburst victims and said all houses destroyed by the natural calamity will be reconstructed within the next two-and-a-half months.

President Pratibha Patil has donated Rs one lakh from her personal fund to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for rehabilitation of the cloudburst victims.

The cloudburst on the intervening night of August 5 and 6, led to flash floods and mudslides which claimed over 175 lives and injured about 400 people, besides causing widespread damage to public and private property.
