PM cannot escape responsibility for 2G spectrum scam: Rajnath

He accused the government of failing to take note of farmers' problems and alleged that the government's policies have led to an increase in the gap between the rich and the poor.

GHAZIABAD: BJP leader Rajnath Singh today said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh cannot escape responsibility for the 2G spectrum scam and urged the UPA government to concede to the Opposition's demand for a JPC probe into the financial irregularities.

"JPC is the only powerful committee to look into the scam. As head of the government, the Prime Minister should shoulder the responsibility of the scam and should not try to dilute BJP's demand for a JPC in the name of PAC," he said.

"The Congress government is known for its scams and minting money at the cost of poverty in the country," he said.

Rajnath was on a tour of various villages in the area under the programme 'chaupal'.

He accused the government of failing to take note of farmers' problems and alleged that the government's policies have led to an increase in the gap between the rich and the poor.

On the issue of land acquisition by the Uttar Pradesh government, Rajnath said the state government cannot snatch lands from the farmers without their consent and should maintain equality and parity in deciding the land price after consulting the farmers.

"The BJP would fight for the rights of the farmers and the time has come to change the atmosphere in the state in the interest of farmers," he said.
