Slamming the Centre over the government's move seeking applications for lateral entry into the bureaucracy, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said 'Narendra Modi is attacking the Constitution by recruiting public servants through 'Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh' instead of Union Public Service Commission.'

"Reservation of SC, ST and OBC categories is being openly snatched away by recruiting through lateral entry on important posts in various ministries of the central government. I have always said that the underprivileged are not represented in all the top positions in the country, including the top bureaucracy," said Rahul Gandhi in a post on social media platform X.

Continuing his attack on the PM, Rahul Gandhi said "Instead of improving this, they are being pushed further away from top positions through lateral entry. This is a robbery of the rights of talented youth preparing for UPSC and an attack on the concept of social justice including reservation for the deprived."

"INDIA will strongly oppose this anti-national move which hurts both the administrative structure and social justice. 'Privatisation of IAS' is 'Modi's guarantee' to end reservation," said the LoP.

Govt's lateral entry move:
Earlier on Saturday, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) advertised 45 posts -- 10 of joint secretaries and 35 of directors/deputy secretaries -- to be filled through the lateral entry mode on contract basis. It is the biggest tranche of lateral recruitment being undertaken by the Centre, an official said.

Usually, such posts are manned by the officers of all-India services -- the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFoS) -- and Group A services, among others.

"The government of India has submitted the requisitions for lateral recruitment of joint secretary and director/deputy secretary level officers. Accordingly, online applications are invited from talented and motivated Indian nationals willing to contribute towards nation building to join the government at the level of joint secretary or director/deputy secretary...," reads the advertisement.
