Plea in SC seeks inauguration of Parliament building by President

A lawyer has petitioned the top court seeking directions to the Lok Sabha Secretariat to have the new Parliament building inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu.

The petition, filed by advocate CR Jaya Sukin, argues that the statement issued by the LS secretariat on May 18 and invites issued by secretary general, LS for the inauguration are violative of the Constitution.

The plea is likely to be mentioned on Friday before a vacation bench for hearing. The petition argues that the President is the first citizen of India and head of the institution of Parliament and that "all important decisions regarding the country are taken in the name of the Indian President".
