BANGALORE: The vision group on IT in Karnataka at its first meeting here on Monday emphasised on two major points: increasing the level of computer literacy in primary & secondary schools and the penetration of IT into areas beyond the cities.

The vision group headed by Mr N R Narayana Murthy, non-executive chairman, Infosys, with other leading personalities of the industry, as a starting measure, chalked out a medium to long-term plans, which it expects will go a long way in enhancing the image of brand Bangalore.

Mr M N Vidyashankar, State IT Secretary, said the panel has made certain strategic recommendations which aims at touching the people who form the bottom of the pyramid.

The panel also felt that there has to be a synergy between, industry, academia and government, particularly in increasing the talent pool of the knowledge sector.

Mr Vidyashankar said that the vision group will also be monitoring the steps taken to improve the level of computer literacy in schools.

The seriousness of the Vision group is also noticeable from the fact that it would be meeting once in every two months and also monitor the progress of its suggestions.

The vision group also suggested that e-governance should become more relevant to faster delivery of government services and make it more encompassing.

Mr Vidyashankar said that the government is also looking to reorient its annual IT event Bangalore.IT.in by making it more content driven.
