Planning Commission likely to be reconstituted within 3 days
NEW DELHI: The Planning Commission is likely to be reconstituted within the next three days, ending the suspense over the future of the entity which charts out five year growth plans and is a vital link with the states.

Sources said the name of the deputy chairman has been finalized and the details would be unveiled soon. The scope of its work may be tweaked to enable it to work like an efficient think tank.

The Narendra Modi government had so far refrained from naming a deputy chairman or members for the planning body. There has been speculation that plan panel may be downsized or its role may be drastically revamped.

Several experts have questioned the relevance of the commission and see it as a Soviet era relic. They have said it is a hindrance and not a help for the country's development process.
