The three-member Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Restructuring Committee presented its findings before chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and deputy chief minister G Parameshwara on Thursday, two day before the committee’s tenure came to an end.

It has drafted the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill to bring structural changes in BBMP’s administration. There are all indications that this extensive report will be put on the back burner, with Parameshwara having already declared that there will be a single administrative unit for Bengaluru. These signals may have prompted the committee to place its findings and conclusions in the public domain.

During the past four years, the committee carried out extensive studies and came out with several reports pushing to restructure Bengaluru’s administration. The committee has mainly stressed on the decentralisation of administration, dividing the BBMP into five municipal corporations with 400 wards, strengthening the Metropolitan Planning Committee for a better Bengaluru.
