Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday said the country's youth would not surrender to the "authoritarian rule" of the Sangh Parivar and the BJP-led Centre, while extending support to student leaders observing a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

In a Facebook post, Vijayan referred to the participation of Students' Federation of India All India President Adarsh M Saji and All India Joint Secretary Aishe Ghosh in the hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, saying their message had inspired everyone fighting for democracy.

The former Kerala CM said the determined voice of students and youth refusing to bow to the "authoritarian rule" of the Sangh Parivar and the (Narendra) Modi government was echoing across the country despite "attempts to suppress" it.

"Our students are the force that will shape tomorrow's India. No government should turn its back on their dreams, aspirations and future. What the country needs is an approach that listens to students, engages with them and addresses their concerns," the veteran CPI(M) leader said.

Expressing solidarity with students fighting to protect democratic rights and secure their future, he conveyed his support and greetings to all those participating in the hunger strike.
