VIJAYAWADA: Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court KJ Sengupta today said PILs can also be filed in district munsiff courts.

"The common man need not approach the high court for filing of PILs as it involves a cost factor. The filing of PILs can be done at munsiff magisterial courts also," the Chief Justice said while addressing C Padmanabha Reddy Memorial Seminar organised by Indian Lawyers Association here.

Justice Sengupta said the main purpose of PILs was protection of the human rights that are guaranteed under the constitution.

He also stressed for availing of the services of Legal Services Authority which would provide free legal aid.

Justice C Praveen Kumar, India Lawyers Association working President C Ajay Kumar and other eminent legal professionals attended the seminar.

District munsiff court is the court of the lowest order handling civil matters.
