PIL demands disclosure of assets by Thackerays, other leaders
MUMBAI: A public interest litigation filed in the Bombay High Court has sought a direction to the Election Commission to ask Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, his son Aditya and MNS chief Raj Thackeray to disclose their assets in affidavits.

Petitioner Sriprakash Neel is the editor of a Thane-based daily.

Uddhav, his son or Raj are not contesting the assembly elections in Maharashtra but the PIL says they field candidates so they themselves should also file affidavits disclosing their assets, etc.

The PIL, which will come up for hearing in due course, only names Thackerays but it says that leaders of all political parties should disclose their assets, criminal cases filed against them, their liabilities, etc., before the elections.

The people need to know not only about the candidates but also about the leaders of political parties who field them it says.
