NEW DELHI: A PIL was filed in Delhi High Court today seeking quashing of the Centre's recent notification giving the Lieutenant Governor absolute powers in appointing bureaucrats in the national capital.

The petition was mentioned before a bench headed by Justice B D Ahmed, for urgent hearing.

The petition by a law student, who has been filing PILs regularly, comes a day after the high court termed the May 21 notification as "suspect".

The notification barred Delhi government's Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) from acting against its officers in criminal offences.

The high court had yesterday held that ACB has the jurisdiction to arrest Delhi police personnel involved in criminal offences.
