Petrol strike enters second day in Maha
Petrol pump and CNG dealers continued their "indefinite strike" in Maharashtra, for the second day today in protest against "high" sales tax on auto fuel imposed by the state government.

MUMBAI: Petrol pump and CNG dealers continued their "indefinite strike" in Maharashtra, for the second day today in protest against "high" sales tax on auto fuel imposed by the state government.
Federation of All Maharashtra Petrol Dealers' Association (FAMPEDA), which had given the strike call, said it will stick to its demand until the state government brought down the sales tax on par with neighbouring states.
"The strike continues for its second day today," FAMPEDA president Ravi Shindhe told the media over phone from Delhi.
Shindhe said he had gone to the capital on the invitation of Union Petrolem Minister Murli Deora to discuss some issues.
Asked whether he would discuss the sale tax issue with the Petroleum Minister he said "Sale tax is a state subject. So it would not find place in the discussion".
"However, we will discuss some issues that are pending with the Petroleum Ministry," Shindhe said.
FAMPEDA members have already exhausted their petrol and CNG stocks to avoid action against them under the Essential Commodities Act 1955.
About 2,200 petrol pumps and CNG stations in the state are on an indefinte strike since Sunday midnight.
FAMPEDA has claimed the strike has been successful in its first day, while the Maharasthra government said almost 77 per cent of the petrol pumps remained open.
