KANPUR: The effect of government's massive project to clean-up the river Ganga will be visible by October this year, Union Minister Uma Bharti said here today.

"The Ganga river is most polluted here either because of sewage or industrial effluents being dumped in it. If the river gets cleaned here it will show effects elsewhere too," the Union Water Resources minister said.

For this, the ministry is planning to take up the operation of water treatment plants here, Bharti said.

"You will be able to see the effect of the clean Ganga campaign by October this year. My ministry is working in this direction," she said.

Bharti made a halt here this morning while on her way to Faizabad.

The Union government had launched ' Namami Gange' aimed at reducing pollution and conserving the river.
