Chief Minister N.Rangasamy today said that the government awaited the nod of the Centre to hike monthly pension of freedom fighters.

PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N.Rangasamy today said that the government awaited the nod of the Centre to hike monthly pension of freedom fighters from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000.

Speaking at a function got up to felicitate freedom fighters on the occasion of 51st anniversary of Liberation (De Jure) of Puducherry, popularly celebrated as Independence Day of Puducherry, he said he had written to the Union Home Ministry seeking approve to hike the pension.

A woman freedom fighter appealed the Chief Minister to take steps to restart the closed Anglo French Textile mill as several families including that of her were in distress and Rangaswamy assured that the unit would reopen soon.
