Relatives mourn the death of J&K's People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Ghulam Nabi Patel who was killed in a militant attack in Pulwama district on Wednesday.
Srinagar: An unidentified terrorist shot dead PDP politician Ghulam Nabi Patel and injured his personal security guards in south Kashmir’s Pulwama on Wednesday afternoon.

Patel died on the spot after his vehicle was intercepted and he was fired upon indiscriminately at Rajpora. “The two PSOs identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Zargar and Bilal Ahmad Mir were shifted to hospital. The investigation in case is going on,” a J&K police spokesperson said.

Patel, formerly with the Congress, contested the 2002 and 2008 assembly elections unsuccessfully from Rajpora. Ahead of 2014 assembly elections, he joined PDP and campaigned for the party. He was PDP’s Pulwama general secretary last year.

J&K chief minister Mehabooba Mufti condemned the killing, wrongly referring him to him as a Congress worker. “Heartfelt condolences to the family of senior Congress leader GN Patel who was killed by militants today in Rajpora. Such cowardly acts achieve nothing but leave one more family devastated,” she tweeted.
