New Delhi: Renewed violence has led to "an institutional and constitutional collapse" in Manipur, said state Congress leaders, who blamed the Modi government for the situation. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, meanwhile, demanded the sacking of Union home minister Amit Shah over continuing violence in the north-eastern state.

Addressing an AICC briefing here, Manipur Congress chief Keisham Meghchandra Singh said the unrest intensified since September 1, with aggressors using sophisticated weapons to carry out attacks.

"The use of highly sophisticated weapons, drones and RPGs and bombings in various places have resulted in civilian deaths, while many others have been hospitalised... PM remains unconcerned about Manipur," Singh said.

Congress MP from Inner Manipur A Bimol Akoijam said the state was witnessing a situation which was unprecedented in independent India.
