HYDERABAD: Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya today said the Centre would soon amend the Payment of Wages Act to ensure that workers get their salaries either through cheques or in their bank accounts.

"As Labour Minister, I feel happy that, in the government of Narendra Modi, Payment of Wages Act, Trade Unions have been asking for it, that the salaries of workers should come in bank accounts, in electronic mode.

"We will be bringing an amendment to Payment of Wages Act to see that salaries are given in bank account or cheque. Cabinet has passed (it)," he told reporters here.

The move would put an end to the exploitation of workers in payment of wages, he said.
