Patna blasts suspect Mehrar Alam escapes from NIA custody: Police

MUZAFFARPUR/BIHAR: Mehrar Alam, a suspect in the Patna serial blasts, escaped from NIA custody here, police sources said today.

Alam, taken into custody by the NIA from Darbhanga, was taken to the house of Mohammad Aftab, another suspect yesterday, the sources said.

Aftab, a kin of yet another blast suspect Ujjair Ahmad, had gone to the Delhi airport to see off his wife when he was detained by security agencies and taken for questioning.

Alam, who was being held in a guest house near Moti Jheel area of the town, escaped last night, the sources said.

After the escape, the NIA lodged an FIR with the town police station and a search for him was mounted, they added.
