Paswan slams Delimitation Commission

Describing as "arbitrary" the notification by the Delimitation Commission pertaining to the reservation of Lok Sabha and Assembly seats for Scheduled Castes in Bihar, LJP president Ramvilas Paswan today said his party would oppose it.

PATNA: Describing as "arbitrary" the notification by the Delimitation Commission pertaining to the reservation of Lok Sabha and Assembly seats for Scheduled Castes in Bihar, LJP president Ramvilas Paswan today said his party would oppose it.
"The notification by the Commission with respect to reservation of seats for the Scheduled Castes is arbitrary and we will strongly oppose it," Paswan told a press conference.
He said instead of reserving 12 Lok Sabha seats for the Scheduled Castes, the Commission had reserved only six -- Gaya, Hajipur, Sasaram, Gopalganj, Samastipur and Jamui.
Similarly, keeping in view the population of the Scheduled Castes, 62 Assembly seats should have been reserved for them but the Commission has reserved only 36.
The Commission's notification issued yesterday redrawing the boundaries of various Lok Sabha and Assembly seats will have among others Railway Minister Lalu Prasad's high-profile brother-in-law Anirudh Prasad alias Sadhu Yadav look for a new seat as his Gopalganj parliamentary constituency figures in the list of seats reserved for SC.
The Commission headed by Justice (retd) Kuldip Singh had declared Gaya, Hajipur, Sasaram, Gopalganj, Samastipur and Jamui Lok Sabha constituencies reserved for candidates belonging to the SC. Of these, the first three were already reserved for that category.
