Party by ex-IITians to try its luck in LS polls

A party floated by former IITians and other professionals will field its candidates from 40 parliamentary constituencies across the country in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

LUCKNOW: A party floated by former IITians and other professionals will field its candidates from 40 parliamentary constituencies across the country in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"Bharat Punarnirman Dal (BDP) will contest from at least 20 seats in Uttar Pradesh and 40 seats across the country on the issue of good governance, restoration of ethics in politics and opposition to caste based reservation," party national president Ajit Ashwalayan Shukla told reporters here.

Shukla, who has done his M Tech degree from IIT Bombay, said Ravishanker Bharat, a chartered accountant by profession and an MBA degree holder, will contest from the Lucknow parliamentary constituency.

The party has also finalised candidates for Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Varanasi, East Delhi, South Delhi, Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar and nominees for other seats including Deoria, Kushinagar and Gorakhpur will be announced soon, he said.

"The so called secular parties are unable to provide solutions to problems like terrorism. People are looking for a change and BPD is fast emerging as a real and credible alternative," he claimed.

Shukla said the party, which contested for the UP Assembly election for the first time in 2007, was founded with the objective of restoring political ethics and oppose caste-based reservation.
