With light to moderate rain in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, water level of important rivers has started rising at a number of places.

LUCKNOW: With light to moderate rain in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, water level of important rivers has started rising at a number of places.

According to Central Water Commission, Sharda river is flowing above danger mark in Paliakalan, Lakhimpur and was marginally below above red line in Shardanagar.

The water level of Ganga river, which received 14.4 mm rainfall is rising. Gomti too recorded 8.2 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.

According to Met department, south-west monsoon has been active over eastern UP and normal in western parts of the state.

Harriya was the wettest place with 17 cm rain while Kalpi received 13 cm followed by Bijnor 11 cm, Basti 10 cm, Chunar 9 cm, Safipur 8 cm, Gonda and Sitapur 7 cm each.

Rain and thundershowers are likely in many parts of the state tomorrow, the department said.

Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated place over the state tomorrow, it said.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced a financial assistance of Rs two lakh each to the kin of farmers killed in lightning, an official spokesperson said.
