Parties welcome J&K governor’s call to hold all-party meeting today

The parties, including PDP and BJP, said the meeting is a step in the right direction, and may help work out the future course of action.

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra has called an all-party meeting at Raj Bhavan on Friday to deliberate on political situation in the state that has been placed under governor’s rule following the fall of PDP-BJP government.

The governor is likely to discuss Amarnath Yatra, starting on June 28, and seek support of all parties. The parties, including PDP and BJP, said the meeting is a step in the right direction, and may help work out the future course of action. “This is a good step to evolve a consensus in the prevailing situation,” a senior PDP leader told ET.

Raj Bhavan has invited heads of all parties, and senior politicians are likely to attend the meeting.


State Congress president Ghulam Ahmad Mir told ET: “Nobody appreciates Governor’s rule, but this meeting is important. We are all stakeholders of peace in the state. We will attend the meeting and express our point of view.”

He said Congress would request the governor to review all the controversial decisions of the PDP-BJP coalition government and revoke backdoor appointments made in the last three years.

Before meeting the Governor, Congress is also convening a party meeting on Friday morning to chalk out the party’s strategy.

National Conference legislator and former minister Ali Muhammad Sagar said they were not aware of the agenda of the meeting, but will demand immediate end to bloodshed and violence. “We will want that atmosphere should be created for dialogue and peace should return to this place,” he told ET.
