Parliament session begins on Dec 10

NEW DELHI: Considered the last one before the next Lok Sabha polls, the Parliament session beginning tomorrow is expected to be a bitter-sweet affair for the ruling Congress as also the main opposition BJP.

A highlight of the ten-day session could be the formalisation of Federal Investigating Agency (FIA) in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks which shook the nation.

The session, the third part of the monsoon session which began on July 21, is being held at a time when the assembly election results have a soothing effect on the government.

With the Congress buoyed over the assembly poll outcome, the ruling combine could attempt to embarrass the BJP over its terror plank which failed to have much impact in the assembly polls.

The government could come out with measures to put in place the FIA as also a legal framework to counter terrorism.

Congress spokesman and Minister of State for Home Shakeel Ahmed hoped that the FIA would be formalised during the session.

Noting that the government is accountable to the people on the issue of security, BJP leader Muqtar Abbas Naqvi said that his party would ask for a detailed report on the preparedness of the government on terror front.
