Parliament congratulates sportspersons

NEW DELHI: Parliament today congratulated Indian women's team for winning gold medal at the Archery World Cup and India Under-23 Cricket team for winning Asian Cricket Council Emerging Teams Cup in Singapore.


"On behalf of the House and on my own behalf, I congratulate the Indian Women's recurve team for winning the gold medal at the World Cup Archery (State IV) held in Poland and the Indian Under-23 Cricket team for winning the Asian Cricket Council Emerging Cup in Singapore on August 25," Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari said.

In Lok Sabha, Speaker Meira Kumar also congratulated Indian athletes for winning 14 medals including three gold at the 2013 Asian Youth Games at Nanjing in China on August 24.

The Lower House congratulated Sania Mirza who won the women doubles Tennis trophy at the WTA New Haven Open at New Haven.

"These accomplishments are a matter of national pride and will inspire upcoming sportspersons across the country," Kumar said.

Members, in both Houses, congratulated the sportspersons by thumping benches.
