Parliament approves President's rule in J'khand

Parliament on Thursday approved imposition of President's rule in Jharkhand.

NEW DELHI: Parliament on Thursday approved imposition of President’s rule in Jharkhand. As Opposition members stormed the well in the Lok Sabha and raised slogans over the government’s failure to contain rising prices, a statutory resolution approving the central rule was put to vote and adopted by voice vote.

In RS, the resolution was moved by MoS for home Mullapally Ramachandran and passed without discussion. Similar scenes were witnessed in the LS where members of the BJP-led NDA and SP stormed the well raising slogans, when MoS for home Ajay Maken placed the resolution for vote. The motion was adopted by a voice vote amidst the din.

Jharkhand was put under central rule on June 1 after Congress and BJP gave up efforts to form an alternative government following the resignation of chief minister Shibu Soren. The assembly has been kept under suspended animation.

Congress and BJP had both indicated their inability to form an alternative government in the state after the Soren government was reduced to a minority on May 24.
