Parliament adjourned sine die

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine die one day ahead of schedule on Friday, following a session disrupted by an Opposition walkout. Scheduled to function until August 12, the Upper House faced multiple adjournments in the post-lunch session. When the House reconvened at 1530 hrs, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar voiced his concerns over the behavior of Opposition members both within and outside the House.

Dhankhar later adjourned the House sine die at 1554 hrs.

Earlier in the day, a face-off occurred between Chairman Dhankhar and actor-politician Jaya Bachchan. Bachchan objected to the Chairman's tone while giving her the floor to speak. In response, Dhankhar asserted that, "even a celebrity like her needs to follow decorum."


The Lok Sabha too was adjourned sine die, one sitting ahead of the scheduled end of the session.

During the session, the Finance Bill was passed. Chair Birla said the productivity of the House was above 130 per cent.

A bill to amend the Waqf law was also introduced and referred to a joint committee of Parliament amid protests over its provisions.
