CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today turned 87 and celebrated his birthday with school students and party workers.

Shiromani Akali Dal ( SAD) workers also joined the five-time Chief Minister at various functions organised in Gidderabaha and his native village Badal in Muktsar district to mark the occasion.

Badal, who was in the school at Gidderbaha to preside over its foundation day, was accorded a warm welcome by the school management, which had also organised a special programme to celebrate his birthday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister exhorted the students to work hard to achieve success in life.

The education was the foundation of the socio-economic progress and it was the sole key through which the students from rural areas could compete with their peers across the globe, he said.

At another school in Gidderabaha, Badal also cut the birthday cake, which was distributed amongst the students.
