Parents should promote attitude of sacrifice: Nirmala Seetharaman
MADURAI: Regretting that the old customs like narrating ' Ramayana' and ' Mahabharatha' had been given up now, Union Minister of State Nirmala Seetharaman today said people were hooked to TV serials unaware of thieves entering their house and escaping with booty.

Participating in the Bramhastana Temple anniversary here, in the presence of spiritual leader Mathaa Amirthanandhamayee, she said, "The strength of our nation is its history and tradition and custom.

"People used to respect the scholars well versed in Ramayana and Mahabharatha. They used to feed those who organised bhajans and taught moral lessons. To my knowledge that is not happening now," she said.

Many elders were not aware how to bring up children, keeping them in good humour and teaching them morals and values.

"We should promote the attitude of sacrifice. Parents should teach the children patriotism and social service. The children should learn that it is their duty to do social service," she added.
