NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today indicated that the recommendation of a committee which favoured setting up of a Special Investigation Team ( SIT) to probe the 1984 Sikh riots may be accepted.

"Justice has to be done with victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims. Whatever be the recommendations of Justice G P Mathur Commission, justice will be done," he told an election rally at Matiamahal area here.

The committee, headed by former Supreme Court judge Mathur, was set up on December 23 last year to look into the possibility of re-investigation of the 1984 riots.

It submitted its report to Singh last week, recommending setting up of an SIT for a fresh probe into the riots that followed the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, sources said.

In his address, Singh appealed to the people to vote for BJP in the Delhi elections. He said India's stature has gone up in the world after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister.

"He has raised the status of India internationally," he said also referring to the way the US welcomed Modi during his visit to the US in September last year though it had refused visa to him earlier.

Singh also attacked the AAP, saying the party ran away from its responsibility to govern the city.

"We had got the maximum number of seats in last assembly polls. But as we did not have majority we did not form the government. But then the other party which had sworn not to take the support of Congress took their support," he said.

He said there was a huge difference between what AAP says and what they do.
