The government has set up a task force to review the existing practices in the national security system and suggest measures to strengthen it.

NEW DELHI: The government has set up a task force to review the existing practices in the national security system and suggest measures to strengthen it.

Headed by former cabinet secretary Naresh Chandra, the 14-member task force will also suggest measures to strengthen the security apparatus in "non-conventional areas having a bearing on the overall security situation".

In a statement on Monday, the cabinet secretariat said, "The government has set up the task force to review the existing processes, procedures and practices in the national security system and suggest measures where necessary for strengthening of the national security apparatus."

Members of the panel include former Intelligence Bureau chief P C Haldar, ex-RAW chief K C Verma, Admiral (retd) Arun Prakash, Air Chief Marshal (retd) S Krishnaswamy, Lt Gen (retd) V R Raghavan, former home secretary V K Duggal and former diplomat G Parthasarathy.

Former Atomic Energy Commission chief Anil Kakodkar, former National Investigation Agency head R V Raju, former Mumbai Police chief D Sivanandan and economist Suman K Bery are also part of the task force.
