Pandits pray for Obama

The blessings of Lord Hanuman seem to be with Barack Obama as a temple consecrated to the Hindu deity is organising a prayer meeting on Sunday to ensure his victory in the US Presidential election.

NEW DELHI: The blessings of Lord Hanuman seem to be with Barack Obama as a temple consecrated to the Hindu deity is organising a prayer meeting on Sunday to ensure his victory in the US Presidential election.

Priests of Sankat Mochan Dham 108 Feet Hanuman temple have organised a prayer for the success of the Democratic party's presidential nominee and will bless with him a 15 kgs gold-plated statute of Hanuman.

"We are praying for his success. Carolene Saurce, a representative of Democratic Party will attend the meeting on his (Obama's) behalf," Brij Mohan Dhama, a member of the temple told the media.

He said his organisation was impressed with the ideology of the 46-year-old senator from Illinois and more than that "that he is a great believer in Lord Hanuman. His victory will benefit India."

Obama who defeated his rival Hillary Clinton in an epic 17-month long electoral battle for the Democratic party nomination, carries a "tiny monkey god" apparently representing 'Hanuman' with him for good luck.

A recent photo posted on Time's White House Photo of the Day collection shows the first-ever black American nominee of a major US party for the Presidential elections carries with him a tiny Hanuman and a tiny Madonna and child among other luck charms.
