Pakistan's plan to hold a Jan. 8 general election still stands, the country's caretaker prime minister said on Friday, a day after opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's plan to hold a Jan. 8 general election still stands, the country's caretaker prime minister said on Friday, a day after opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated.

"Nothing yet. Elections stand as they were announced," caretaker Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro told reporters when asked if a decision had been made on the timing of the parliamentary polls in light of Bhutto's death.
