Pakistan removed its national security advisor from his post on late Wednesday, an aide to the prime minister said, as tensions with India over the Mumbai attacks rose.


ISLAMABAD: Pakistan removed its national security advisor from his post on late Wednesday, an aide to the prime minister said, as tensions with India over the Mumbai attacks rose.

"Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has removed national security advisor retired general Mahmud Ali Durrani from his position with immediate effect," the aide said, without giving a reason.

Pakistan's private Geo television station quoted Gilani as saying Durrani had made unauthorised comments to the media confirming that the lone surviving Mumbai attacker was Pakistani.
