Militants on Thursday took 300 school children hostage in northwestern Pakistan, state television reported.

ISLAMABAD: Militants on Thursday took 300 school children hostage in northwestern Pakistan, state television reported.

Reports said the militants took control of a school in Upper Dir district of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and took the students hostage.

The militants and local people then started firing at one another, the channel said.
