Pakistan committed to friendly ties with India: Pakistan foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar tells PM Manmohan Singh

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar today underlined Pakistan's commitment for "friendly, cooperative and good" neighbourly relations with India as she met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and handed over an invitation to him from Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Khar called on Singh and conveyed to him greetings of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani, the Pakistan Foreign Office said in a statement.

On a three-day visit to New Delhi, Khar held a bilateral meeting with her Indian counterpart S M Krishna today, following which she called on the Prime Minister.

During her meeting with Singh, Khar recalled that meeting at Thimphu last year, the two Prime Ministers had agreed that dialogue was the only way forward and pointed out that the direction given by the two had led to the resumption of the full spectrum of the dialogue process.

She reiterated the commitment of the Pakistani leadership for "friendly, cooperative and good neighbourly relations with India".

According to the statement, Singh welcomed the progress made in the dialogue process and termed it as "heralding of a new spring" in the relations between the two countries.

He stressed that India wanted the "friendliest" of relations with Pakistan and resolution of all issues.

The Foreign Office said Khar handed over a letter of invitation from Gilani to Singh, which the latter "accepted" and said "he would visit Pakistan at mutually convenient dates".
