The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) said it will hold a peaceful demonstration on January 1, 2022, in protest against the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission, which has proposed 43 MLA seats in Jammu and 47 seats in Kashmir.

The PAGD, a grouping of Kashmir parties led by Farooq Abdullah which was formed in October 2020 to strive for restoration of statehood and special status of J&K, held its latest meeting in Jammu on Tuesday to examine the recommendations of the commission. "The Prime Minister aimed to narrow 'Dilli ki dooriyaan and dil ki dooriyaan' (distance from Delhi and between hearts) but decisions like these will not only increase the distance to Delhi but break hearts as well," said PAGD spokesman Muhammad Yusuf Tarigami.

The PAGD said the commission's proposal was "divisive that will deepen alienation".
