Padma Bhushan for Adi Godrej, R Thyagarajan

NEW DELHI: JawaharLal Nehru University's ex-chancellor Professor Yash Pal, sculptor from OdishaRaghunathMohapatra, painter S HaiderRaza and aerospace scientist Professor RoddamNarasimha have been conferred the PadmaVibhushan, while Godrej group chairman AdiGodrej and Shriram Group patriarch, RamamurthyThyagarajan, have been awarded the PadmaBhushan.

The government also posthumously conferred the Padma Bhushan on superstar Rajesh Khanna and satirist Jaspal Bhatti. Actress Sharmila Tagore, cricketer Rahul Dravid and Olympic boxing medal winner Mary Kom too were conferred the Padma Bhushan. The head of Defence Research and Development Organisation, Vijay Kumar Saraswat, has also been conferred the Padma Bhushan.

Two other London Olympic medal winners - shooter Vijay Kumar, who won the silver medal and wrestler Yogeswar Dutt, who won a bronze - have been awarded the Padma Sri. Industry members who have won the Padma Sri are VLCC head Vandana Luthara, chairperson of Rajshree Group of companies, Rajshree Pathy, chairman of the Dalit Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Milind Kamble and the chairperson of Kamani Tubes, Kalpana Saroj.

Late Manju Bharat Ram, the founder of Shri Ram chain of schools, has been awarded the Padma Sri in the social work category. Film stars Nana Patekar, Sridevi Kapoor, veteran film director Ramesh Sippy and fashion designer Ritu Kumar have been awarded the Padma Sri. The highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna, has not been awarded to any person this year. It was last awarded in 2008 to Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.
