Padamsinh alleges CBI pressuring him

NCP leader Padamsinh Patil, arrested in the murder case of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar, has accused the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of putting pressure on him to confess to the crime.

NEW DELHI: NCP leader Padamsinh Patil, arrested in the murder case of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar, has accused the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of putting pressure on him to confess to the crime.

This assertion came as a Maharashtra court on Sunday remanded the MP in CBI custody till June 20. The CBI had asked for custody on the grounds that the case is now at a crucial stage and that more time was needed to probe the involvement of police officials and other politicians in the case. The investigating agency has also said that the NCP leader is not cooperating with the investigation process.

But Patils lawyer Dinesh Tiwari told the court that the CBI is allegedly pushing Patil to give a confessional statement and to undergo scientific tests. Mr Tiwari said that Patil has no intention of giving a confessional statement as he has done nothing wrong. The lawyer further said that Patil is also not ready to undergo scientific tests due to his health.

I do not intend to give any confessional statement as I have done nothing wrong and I do not want to undergo any scientific tests due to health reasons, Patils application opposing extension of remand said.
