BHOPAL: Decades after soldier and legendary runner Paan Singh Tomar turned into a Chambal bandit, two members of his family were gunned down in a bloody clash in the ravines. The killings followed a family feud over land in Tomar's ancestral village Bhidosa in Morena district on Sunday.

While two of them, Rahul Tomar, 19, and Vrindavan Tomar, 36, died of bullet injuries, two others Pinky and Ravi are critically injured. They have been taken to a hospital in Gwalior, said Silhonia police station in charge, O P Chanderia.

"The accused are members of Paan Singh Tomar's extended family. A land dispute set off violence between Mahavir Singh and Kailash Singh Tomar. Soon, bullets began flying between the two groups," said Chanderia.

Mahavir Tomar's land and home lies adjacent to Kailash's fields. When Mahavir began erecting a gate, Kailash objected. This sparked off the bloody clash, said Chanderia.

After the shootout, the accused Mukesh Singh Tomar, Shivraj Singh Tomar, Munna Singh Tomar, Ajay Singh Tomar, Ram Pal Singh Tomar and Ram Prasad Singh Tomar are on the run. They have been booked for murder.
