Over 800 people, including 38 rowdies, 28 former convicts and 18 persons facing court warrants have been arrested during city-wide 'storming operations' launched by the city police.

CHENNAI: Over 800 people, including 38 rowdies, 28 former convicts and 18 persons facing court warrants have been arrested during city-wide 'storming operations' launched by the city police as part of preventive measures to check crime.

An official press release here today said a total of 870 people were arrested from various parts of the city late last night during raids, conducted as per the order of the Chennai Police Commissioner R Sekar.

The Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commisioners, along with other police officials, had formed various patrol teams for the operations.

Apart from this, small teams comprising Sub-Inspectors and head constables were formed in all police stations to conduct raids and checks through the night.

Traffic offenders were also taken to task and 562 persons were booked for not wearing helmets and 173 for overspeeding, the release said.
