5,807 Pak nationals were living in Maharashtra as of Dec 31 last year with 107 of them "underground", the state govt today told the Legislative Assembly .

MUMBAI: 5,807 Pakistani nationals were living in Maharashtra as of December 31 last year with 107 of them "underground", the state government today told the Legislative Assembly .

In a written reply, Home Minister R R Patil said of the total Pakistani citizens, visa of 1,975 was extended.

As many as 72 of them were staying on short term visa, while application for converting short term visa of 2,144 Pakistanis to long term one were pending with the state and the central government, he added.

Sixty Pakistanis were staying without visa, two of them were in jail. About 107 were "underground".

117 Pakistanis were here on medical visa, business visa or for training, conference, etc.

The Pakistanis living illegally, or who are underground, are dealt with as per the central government's orders, the Home Minister said.
