Over 3800 workers to be appointed to destroy mosquitoes

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Monday ordered appointment of 3,850 temporary workers in villages to destroy mosquitoes which spread the virus.


CHENNAI: Reviewing measures taken by the state government to check the spread of chikungunya from neighbouring Kerala, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Monday ordered appointment of 3,850 temporary workers in villages to destroy mosquitoes which spread the virus.

After holding a meeting with Health Minister K K S S R Ramachandran, Chief Secretary L K Tripathy and Health Secretary K Subburaj, the chief minister had also allocated a sum of Rs 7.10 crore to undertake preventive steps.

He directed the officials to give wide publicity among people on the need to take protective steps and advised to stock necessary medicines in hospitals as a precautionary measure.
