Over 300 complaints against IAS officers in last three years

Over 300 complaints of alleged irregularities against high-ranking IAS officers have been received by the government in the last three years.

NEW DELHI: Over 300 complaints of alleged irregularities against high-ranking IAS officers have been received by the government in the last three years, Lok Sabha was informed today.

As many as 71 complaints against IAS officers in the rank of Joint Secretary and above were received in 2010, followed by 120 in 2011 and 114 last year.

"During the current year, 74 complaints against such officers have been received," Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy said in a written reply.

The complaints received by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), which is the cadre controlling authority for IAS, is sent to the administrative ministries or organisations concerned for verification or appropriate action, he said.

"In the last three years and the current year, in so far as DoPT is concerned, departmental proceedings were initiated against nine officers of Joint Secretary level or above in the central government. Besides, penalties were imposed on five officers and prosecution sanction was granted against nineteen officers," the Minister said.
