Mumbai: As many as 20,718 candidates have filed nominations for the upcoming Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in Maharashtra, an official said on Sunday.

Elections to 12 Zilla Parishad and 125 Panachayat Samitis in the state will be held on February 5, and the counting of votes will take place on February 7.

According to data shared by the State Election Commission (SEC), 7,695 candidates have filed nominations for 731 Zilla Parishad seats, while 13,023 nomination papers were filed for 1,462 Panchayat Samiti seats.


Kolhapur district recorded the highest number of nominations for Panchayat Samiti seats at 1,529, followed by Pune with 1,482, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with 1,456 and Solapur with 1,371.

For Zilla Parishad polls, Dharashiv saw 967 candidates filing papers, followed by Kolhapur with 907.

The final candidate list will be published on January 27, officials said.

Polling will be held from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm on February 5 at 25,482 polling stations.
